BECCIMA Chairman, Achado Institutes Scholarhip For Bsu Undergraduates
The Chairman, Benue Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Arch. Asema Achado, has instituted a One Million Naira Annual Scholarship Scheme for twenty undergraduate Students of Benue State University, Makurdi, as part of his modest contribution to the development of education in Benue State.
Arch. Achado disclosed this during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe. He explained that the scholarship, which would be funded from his investment in a Federal Government bond, will be disbursed to the 20 beneficiaries who will get N 50,000.00 each.
The Proprietor of Bennystal College of Education, Makurdi, urged the University Management to ensure that beneficiaries of the Scholarship Scheme are spread across all the Local Government areas in the State.
He disclosed that there are available funds at the Bank of Industry and Central Bank of Nigeria for the development of Agriculture and Medium Scale Enterprises to improve the living standard of people in the state and urged the Vice-Chancellor to sensitize Staff of the University to take advantage of the Scheme to enhance their economic status.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe, thanked him for his benevolence to the University and assured that a Committee would be put in place to work out modalities to identify those who would benefit from the Scholarship.
Prof. Kembe acknowledged the immense contributions of the donor to the development of Benue economy and rural transformation and urged other business and political leaders in the state to emulate Mr. Achado
The Vice-Chancellor lamented that the University was in dire need of hostel accommodation, Lecture halls, Offices and Laboratories to enhance Teaching, Learning and Research.
It could be recalled that the Management of the University had, following approval by the Governing Council earlier, awarded Scholarships to 18 Best undergraduate Students across the nine Faculties of the University while the Vice-Chancellor has also instituted a Scholarship scheme for 7 undergraduate students of the University.
